Palazzo Murat is a hotel now, five generations deep in the Attanasio family, but the structure carries older weight than most places on this coast. It was built over the ruins of the Church of San Vito and a Benedictine abbey, and a Napoleonic king once spent his summers here. The story behind Palazzo Murat
The palazzo was built in the late 18th century on ground that had already held a Benedictine abbey and the Church of San Vito, Positano's patron saint. Its royal chapter came in 1808, when Gioacchino Murat — King of Naples and Napoleon's brother-in-law — arrived in Positano and used the palace as a warm-weather retreat.
Decades later, Alfonso Cinque, a Positano native who had emigrated to New York and made a fortune as a wholesaler, returned and acquired the ground floor. The Attanasio family eventually completed the purchase and converted the building into a hotel in the 1960s; it is now run by the fifth generation of that family.

Private parking is available at Piazza dei Mulini — reserve ahead, as the palazzo sits in Positano's pedestrian zone. The beach is a four-minute walk. Buses to Praiano and other Amalfi hamlets leave from Piazza dei Mulini, steps away. May and September give you the best weather-to-crowd ratio.

A truly lovely experience. I visited the hotel garden for coffee, and everything was wonderful from the moment we arrived. The atmosphere was peaceful, elegant, and incredibly relaxing. The service was excellent, and the staff were very welcoming, friendly, and professional. The place itself was spotless, beautifully maintained, and perfect for enjoying a quiet moment. I ordered a cappuccino, and it was absolutely delicious. Combined with the beautiful seating area and charming surroundings, it made for a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing and refined coffee spot.
We had an absolutely fantastic vacation in Positano at the Palazzo Murat. The location was incredible, and the hotel was top-notch. Every aspect of it was stunning! Leonardo and his team were incredibly welcoming, accommodating, kind, and helpful. They were always there to assist us whenever we needed anything. From the sunset cruise, the fabulous breakfasts, tasty cocktails and incredibly delicious meals, our hearts and stomachs were full! We will be back very soon for a longer visit. PS: The Presidential Suite with its incredible balcony and views was the cherry on top! Bellissimo!!!
While we didn’t stay at the hotel, my best friend and I went to the restaurant one night and were treated like queens. The service was above and beyond, great food, the music was phenomenal, the atmosphere was wonderful, and the espresso martinis were the best we had in Italy. Highly recommend.

It is heaven! From the bottom to the top! The most beautiful terrace, bar, pool area overlooking the cathedral and the sea. Outdoor covered gym. Fresh food and indegridients. Private garden. Best lemonade ever. Best staff and the reception. Room upgrade with no asking. Heaven!
