Cascina Frutteto (Parco di Monza)
At the centre of a circle drawn by irrigation ditches and eight radiating avenues of fruit trees, Cascina Frutteto sits exactly where Luigi Canonica intended it in 1820 — the geometric heart of what the park's early planners called the "giardino matematico." The horseshoe-shaped farmstead, with its belvedere turret and domed stable ceilings, was built to a purpose: feed the agricultural colonies of the Royal Park and train the people who worked them.
Today it operates as a restaurant and refreshment point, which means you can sit inside a working piece of Lombard rural architecture and order lunch. The radial orchards are still around you, even if the geometry is harder to read at ground level than it was on Canonica's drawing board.

People who come back tend to time it for a weekday evening dinner — the car access on Viale Cavriga runs until 19:30 Monday through Friday, which lines up neatly with the 18:30 kitchen opening. On weekends the road goes pedestrian, so you walk in from Villa Reale parking at Porta Monza, which gives you a proper approach through the park.
The story behind Cascina Frutteto (Parco di Monza)
The site was occupied before Canonica arrived: Cascina Michelona stood here until 1819, when it was demolished to make way for something more deliberate. Canonica's final design, dated 1820, placed the new farmstead at the centre of a circular plan — irrigation ditch as perimeter, eight avenues radiating outward, fruit trees planted along each spoke. The main body was residential; the lateral wings held stables and hay barns.
The building found a second life in 1902, when Aurelia Josz founded the Scuola di Agraria del Parco di Monza here — the first women's agricultural school in Italy. Recognised as a moral entity in 1920, the school used the cascina to train students in environmental management and multifunctional farming, a function that kept the building purposeful well into the twentieth century.
Good to know
Viale Cavriga is open to cars only on weekdays, 07:00–10:00 and 16:00–19:30. On weekends and holidays the park is pedestrian; park at Villa Reale's Porta Monza entrance instead. The restaurant opens for lunch daily from 12:30 and for dinner Tuesday through Sunday from 18:30. Note that major roof restoration work was underway as of early 2026.
The park is genuinely pleasant from April through October, when the orchards have colour and the outdoor spaces around the cascina are at their best. Winter visits are quieter and colder — Lombardy's Po Valley winters are damp and grey — but the restaurant stays open year-round.

It’s a nice place inside Monza’s park. The food was not bad but the menu it’s not vegetarian friendly. The building is an ancient cascina so it’s worth visiting one time.

A beautiful location in Milan. A very relaxing atmosphere with great wine and food. We had a family celebration here and the staff were excellent. Attentive, knowledgeable about the wine menu, and very friendly. Highly recommend a visit here.
