Torre de San Francisco Viewpoint
Climb to the top of the former convent of San Francisco — now repurposed as a cultural centre — and you'll be rewarded with one of the most sweeping 360-degree views in all of southern Extremadura. The Alcázar's nine towers, the tiled church domes, the ochre plains rolling toward the Sierra Morena: it's the kind of panorama that makes you reach for your camera before you've caught your breath.
What You'll See
From this elevated perch you can trace the entire medieval street plan of Zafra below you — the two interlocking plazas, the radiating lanes of the old Jewish quarter, and the Alcázar's crenellated silhouette cutting into the sky to the south.
On clear days, which are common in this part of Extremadura, the view extends to the distant outline of the Sierra de Tentudía, adding a dramatic natural backdrop to the urban foreground.
When to Go
Sunrise is magical here — the plains turn a deep amber and the town is almost entirely yours, save for a few dog-walkers in the streets below. Photographers should bring a wide-angle lens to capture the full sweep.
The viewpoint is accessible during the cultural centre's opening hours; check locally as events and temporary exhibitions sometimes alter access to the tower terrace.
