Pic Restaurant & the Suites Pic Pastry Boutique

Anne-Sophie Pic is the only woman in France to hold three Michelin stars, and her family's restaurant on Avenue Victor Hugo has been the gastronomic heartbeat of Valence since 1889. Even if a full tasting menu isn't in the budget, the adjacent Pic pastry boutique sells the same obsessive technique in éclair form for a handful of euros.

Dining at Pic: what to expect

The tasting menu changes with the seasons but reliably features Pic's signature 'berlingots' — translucent pasta parcels that burst with warm cheese — alongside combinations like sea bass with caviar and Sarawak pepper that sound unlikely and taste inevitable. The dining room is calm, cream-toned and surprisingly unstuffy for three stars.

Lunch menus (the 'Déjeuner' option) offer the best value entry point, hovering around €120–€160 per person without wine. Booking three to four months ahead is realistic for weekend tables; weekday lunches are slightly more accessible.

The Pic ecosystem for every budget

The Brasserie Pic, a few steps from the main restaurant, serves a shorter menu of Pic-inspired dishes — roast chicken with truffled jus, tarte Tatin finished at the table — at brasserie prices. It is one of the best-value chef-driven casual meals in the Rhône Valley.

The boutique sells house-made chocolates, jams flavoured with Sichuan pepper and bergamot, and the famous Pic cookbook. A box of their salted caramel bonbons makes the most compact, delicious souvenir Valence offers.
