The Drive and the View
As the road rises through the Montes de María foothills, pull over at any of the informal mirador points where locals park motorcycles and sit on the verge — the elevation gain is enough to lift you above the coastal haze and reveal the full arc of the bay below.
The view is best in the late afternoon when the sun drops behind you and bathes Cartagena's terracotta rooftops and the bay's calm water in warm amber light. Bring a wide-angle lens or simply stand there and accept that no photograph will fully capture it.
Getting There Safely
The most accessible viewpoint is along the road between Turbaco and the Loma de la Cruz area — a local mototaxi driver will know exactly where to take you if you ask for 'el mirador de la bahía.' The journey from Turbaco's plaza takes about ten minutes.
Go with a local guide or trusted mototaxi driver rather than on foot after dark, as the road is unlit. Daytime visits are straightforward and safe.
