Ristorante La Darsena

Tucked into Tremezzo's small harbour, La Darsena serves honest Lariano cooking at tables that sit close enough to the water that ferry wash occasionally laps the terrace wall — it is as close to eating on the lake as you can get without a boat.

What to Order

Start with the missoltini — agone fish from the lake, salted, sun-dried and pressed in the traditional Larian way, then grilled and served with polenta. It is an ancient preparation unique to Como and Lecco, and La Darsena does it properly, sourcing fish from local fishermen who still work the central lake.

Follow with risotto al pesce persico, the golden-fried perch fillets served over saffron risotto that has become the signature dish of the western Tremezzina shore. The kitchen uses Carnaroli rice from the Lomellina and finishes the risotto with a knob of local butter — simple, precise and deeply satisfying.

The Setting

The terrace overlooks the small boat dock where wooden fishing craft bob alongside the odd vintage mahogany speedboat — the quintessential Lake Como scene. On summer evenings the mountains across the water turn purple as the light fades and the village of Bellagio glitters on the far shore.

Lunch is the preferred meal here among locals; the kitchen is at its most energetic between noon and 2 pm, and the fixed-price weekday lunch menu (two courses plus water) offers remarkable value for the setting.

Booking & Timing

Reserve at least two days ahead for weekend dinner in July and August — the terrace fills fast and the interior, though charming, lacks the magic of the waterfront tables. Ask specifically for a tavolo sul lago when booking.

The wine list leans heavily on Lombard producers: look for a bottle of Lugana from the southern shore or a light Valtellina Rosso from the Nebbiolo vines above Sondrio, both of which pair beautifully with the lake fish.
