Nearby stands a Soyuz rocket and capsule, and a recreation of the Mars Pathfinder rover that gives a visceral sense of just how small the real vehicle was.
Inside the Mir replica, you crawl through the actual dimensions of the station's modules — the claustrophobic sleeping quarters, the cramped laboratory, the observation window where cosmonauts spent hours watching the Earth rotate below. It reframes every romanticised idea about life in orbit into something more honest and more impressive.
Planetarium and interactive simulators
The Stellarium planetarium runs several shows daily in French and English, with a 280-seat domed theatre and a projection system accurate enough to show the night sky from any point on Earth at any date in history. The 30-minute 'Origins of the Universe' show is the pick of the programme for adults.
Simulator experiences — including a Mars landing and a spacewalk — cost a small supplement but are genuinely thrilling rather than gimmicky. The museum pitches itself at families but the depth of content, including real mission artefacts and ESA briefing materials, rewards adult visitors who arrive with curiosity.
