Restaurante Casa Manolo, Tineo
Tucked into the ground floor of a traditional stone building near the town centre, Casa Manolo has been feeding Tineo locals and passing pilgrims for decades with no-nonsense Asturian cooking at prices that feel almost old-fashioned in the best way.
The Dishes You Must Order
The fabada asturiana here is the benchmark: fat, creamy fabes cooked low and slow with morcilla, chorizo and lacón, served in an earthenware pot that arrives still bubbling. It is a dish designed for cold mountain air and it delivers every time.
The cachopo — a massive breaded veal escalope stuffed with jamón serrano and melted cheese — is large enough to share between two. Finish with arroz con leche, the Asturian rice pudding caramelised on top with a blow-torch, and a small glass of orujo de hierbas.
Atmosphere and Practicalities
The dining room is simple: white walls, wooden tables, framed photos of the Asturian countryside. Lunch is the main event, running from 1:30 pm to 4 pm, and the menú del día at around €12 includes starter, main, dessert, bread and a glass of wine or sidra.
Booking ahead on weekends is wise, especially in summer when pilgrims on the Camino Primitivo swell the town. The restaurant is a 3-minute walk from the Thursday market, making a natural pairing for market morning.
