Butte de l'Orme Viewpoint, Tremblay-en-France
The low ridge known as the Butte de l'Orme on the eastern edge of Tremblay-en-France is the best elevated vantage point within cycling distance of CDG, offering a wide sweep across the Plaine de France with aircraft on final approach sliding silently overhead before you hear the engines. At dusk the sky turns amber behind the control tower silhouette.
The View and the Light
From the grassy crest you can see aircraft stacked in the ILS approach queue stretching back toward the horizon — sometimes six or seven jets visible simultaneously in a perfectly spaced diagonal line descending toward runway 26R. It is the kind of view that makes even non-enthusiasts reach for their phone camera.
The surrounding plateau is largely agricultural, so the foreground is wheat or rapeseed depending on the season — bright yellow canola fields in April and May frame the aircraft beautifully and make for genuinely striking photographs.
Getting There and Combining the Visit
The butte is reachable on foot or by bicycle from Tremblay-en-France town centre in about 20 minutes along a signed green trail. The RER B stops at Villepinte, from where it is a 25-minute walk north through the exhibition park perimeter.
Pair the viewpoint with a loop through the Parc du Sausset (see separate tip) for a half-day of open-air Île-de-France landscape that feels completely removed from the airport bubble a kilometre away.
