Mirador del Eo (Miradoiro do Eo)
Perched on the Galician bank of the Eo estuary, this panoramic viewpoint delivers a sweeping view over the tidal ría where Galicia meets Asturias — a patchwork of emerald marshes, mussel-farming rafts and the elegant Puente de los Santos bridge below. It is free, two minutes from the town centre, and best at golden hour.
The view itself
From the stone balustrade you look south-west along the Eo ría as it widens toward the open Cantabrian Sea. The Puente de los Santos — a slender arch bridge carrying the A-8 motorway — frames the middle distance perfectly, while the white houses of Castropol in Asturias dot the far bank.
At high tide the estuary fills to a broad silver mirror; at low tide the exposed mudflats turn gold and attract flocks of wading birds including grey herons, little egrets and dunlin. Birdwatchers should bring binoculars.
Context and surroundings
The viewpoint is integrated into the Parque Municipal de Ribadeo, a small but well-tended public garden with camellias and hydrangeas that bloom from February through April, adding colour to any photograph.
A short walk downhill from the mirador leads to the town's fishing harbour, where you can watch small boats unload the day's catch of percebes (barnacles), nécoras (velvet crabs) and merluza (hake) in the late morning.
