Mont Frugy Panoramic Viewpoint

A wooded hill rising 72 metres directly south of the Odet river, Mont Frugy is Quimper's secret balcony — a 15-minute walk from the city centre that rewards with a sweeping panorama over the twin spires of Saint-Corentin and the terracotta rooftops of the old town. Almost no tourists make the climb.

The Climb and the View

A marked footpath ascends from the Quai de l'Odet in about 15 minutes through oak and chestnut woodland. The main belvedere platform sits just below the summit and frames the cathedral perfectly between the trees — it is the classic Quimper postcard shot, best taken in the golden hour before sunset.

A second, slightly higher viewpoint further along the ridge gives a wider angle taking in the modern city to the west and, on clear days, the beginning of the Odet estuary stretching south toward the sea.

A Green Escape Mid-City

The hill is crisscrossed by walking and mountain-bike trails, and the shaded paths feel genuinely rural even though you are minutes from the cathedral square. In spring, bluebells and wild garlic carpet the forest floor.

Bring a picnic from Les Halles market and eat it at the belvedere bench — the combination of charcuterie, cider and a cathedral view is hard to beat anywhere in Brittany.
