Crêperie du Frugy
Crêperie du Frugy on Rue de la Providence is the kind of place Quimper locals fiercely defend as their own — a snug, stone-walled room where buckwheat galettes arrive at the table still sizzling from a cast-iron billig griddle, folded around fillings sourced almost entirely from Finistère farms.
What to Order
The galette complète here is a benchmark: a thin, lacy buckwheat crêpe with a slightly nutty char, folded into a square around jambon breton, a runny free-range egg and melted Comté. It sounds simple because it is, and that is entirely the point.
For dessert the sweet crêpe with salted-butter caramel (caramel au beurre salé) from Sainte-Anne-d'Auray is the only rational choice. The butter is from a local dairy in Pluguffan and the salt is fleur de sel de Guérande — two ingredients that together achieve something close to perfection.
Cider Pairings and Atmosphere
The house cider is a brut from a small ciderie in the Fouesnant valley, poured in traditional bolées (small ceramic bowls) and dry enough to cut through the richness of the galette fillings. Ask the staff about the current guest cider — they rotate a local farmhouse selection seasonally.
The room seats about 30, the walls are hung with old faïence plates from the Quimper pottery workshops, and the whole experience feels genuinely rooted in place rather than performed for tourists.
