Les Bords de Seine Restaurant Strip, Poissy
A string of casual riverside restaurants and guinguettes lines the Quai de Seine just south of Poissy's town centre, offering terrace tables that hover practically over the water and menus built around the honest, generous cooking of the Île-de-France tradition. On a sunny weekend lunchtime this is one of the most pleasurable places to eat within an hour of Paris.
What and Where to Eat
Le Bord de l'Eau is the most established address on the strip, with a shaded terrace, a wine list that leans heavily on Loire valley whites and a menu that changes with the seasons but always features andouillette de Troyes, entrecôte with béarnaise and a creditable tarte Tatin. Reservations are strongly recommended on Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes from April through September.
For something more casual, the guinguette-style bar a few doors down serves moules-frites, charcuterie boards and cold Kronenbourg to a mixed crowd of cyclists, kayakers and local families who have clearly been coming here for decades. No reservations, first-come-first-served, and all the better for it.
The Riverside Atmosphere
Pleasure boats and the occasional péniché barge glide past while you eat, and on summer evenings the low sun turns the Seine a molten gold that makes lingering over a carafe of Muscadet feel not just acceptable but practically obligatory.
After lunch, walk the Quai northward toward the old bridge for a view back across the water to the town's rooftops and the collegiate church tower — it is the kind of effortlessly photogenic French scene that reminds you why you came to the Paris region in the first place.
