Trattoria da Teresa, Pogerola
Tucked into the upper lanes of Pogerola village, Da Teresa is the kind of family-run trattoria that Amalfi's waterfront restaurants stopped being decades ago — hand-rolled pasta, vegetables from the garden two doors down, and a terrace where the only soundtrack is the wind and distant church bells. It is where locals from Amalfi itself come when they want to eat properly.
What to Order
Start with the bruschetta drizzled in local Agerola olive oil and topped with sun-dried Piennolo tomatoes — the flavour is concentrated and almost sweet. Follow with scialatielli ai frutti di mare, the thick hand-cut pasta native to this coast, tossed with clams, mussels, and a handful of local bottarga shavings.
The secondo changes daily based on what came off the fishing boats in Amalfi that morning, but if you see totani ripieni — stuffed flying squid baked in white wine — order it without hesitation. Finish with a generous pour of house-made limoncello from the lemons growing on the terrace pergola above your head.
The Atmosphere
The dining room seats perhaps thirty people across mismatched ceramic-tiled tables, and Teresa herself — or a member of the family — will likely take your order, explain the specials in enthusiastic Italian, and bring out a complimentary digestivo at the end whether you asked for one or not.
Booking is strongly advised for Friday and Saturday evenings when the terrace fills with Neapolitan day-trippers who have figured out the secret. Lunch on a weekday remains the most relaxed experience.
