Belvedere di Pogerola
Perched at roughly 400 metres above sea level, the natural terrace at the edge of Pogerola's upper village delivers one of the most unobstructed panoramas on the entire Amalfi Coast — without a single tour bus in sight. On clear mornings the view stretches from Capo d'Orso all the way to the island of Capri floating on the horizon.
The View Itself
Standing at the belvedere you look straight down over the rooftops of Amalfi, the cathedral's Arab-Norman campanile, and the fan of fishing boats moored in the harbour below — all framed by vertical limestone cliffs draped in maquis scrub.
The light is at its most theatrical in the late afternoon when the sun swings behind the Lattari Mountains and gilds the sea a deep amber. Bring a wide-angle lens or simply stand still and let the scale of the coastline recalibrate your sense of distance.
Getting There on Foot
From Amalfi's Piazza Flavio Gioia, follow the signed mule-track staircase — roughly 1,500 steps — that climbs through lemon groves and past old paper mills. The ascent takes 45–60 minutes at a comfortable pace and rewards you with changing perspectives at every switchback.
Alternatively, the SITA bus from Amalfi to Pogerola drops you in the village square in about 15 minutes, leaving the belvedere a short five-minute walk along Via Pogerola.
