Restaurant Le Pré Rosset, Passy
Perched above the village of Passy with a terrace that frames Mont Blanc like a painting, Le Pré Rosset is the kind of unhurried, family-run mountain restaurant that reminds you why you came to the Alps in the first place. The menu leans hard into Savoyard tradition — tartiflette, fondue Savoyarde, croûte au fromage — made with cheese sourced from farms within 30 km.
What to Order
The tartiflette here uses Reblochon from a single Aravis farm, sliced generously over lardons and waxy Charlotte potatoes that hold their shape under the oven's heat — it arrives bubbling and golden-edged, served with a simple green salad dressed in walnut oil. In winter, the fondue Savoyarde blends Comté, Beaufort and Emmental in proportions the owner guards carefully.
In summer, lighter dishes appear: a salad of local charcuterie with cornichons and walnuts, or a bavette d'aloyau with morel cream sauce using mushrooms foraged from the forests above Passy. The wine list focuses on Savoie appellations — try a glass of Chignin-Bergeron with the cheese course.
Ambience & Booking
The dining room has exposed stone walls, low pine ceilings and a wood-burning stove that runs from October to April, making it one of the cosiest rooms in the valley. The terrace, open May through September, seats about 30 and the Mont Blanc view at sunset is genuinely spectacular.
Reservations are strongly recommended on Friday and Saturday evenings and during school holidays. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays.
