The Beach and Pineta
The coastline is divided between free public stretches (spiaggia libera) and private stabilimenti balneari — the classic Italian beach clubs where for around €15–25 you get a sunbed, umbrella and access to showers and a bar. For the full local experience, rent a sunbed at one of the smaller, family-run stabilimenti rather than the larger commercial ones.
Behind the beach, the Pineta di Nettuno is a protected coastal pine forest where you can walk or cycle in shade even at the height of July. The combination of beach and forest makes Nettuno considerably more comfortable in peak summer than fully exposed resorts.
Sunsets and Evening Walks
The Lungomare Caboto is at its most atmospheric in the early evening, when the heat softens and locals emerge for the passeggiata. Gelato in hand, the walk from the town beach toward the port takes about 20 minutes and passes a string of seafront bars and trattorias that set out tables on the promenade as the sun dips.
Sunsets from the beach looking south toward Capo Circeo — the rocky headland that the ancients believed was the island of the sorceress Circe — are genuinely beautiful, especially in autumn when the light turns amber and the sea is still warm enough to swim.
