Parque Natural de Bosquesur
Straddling the boundary between Móstoles and Alcorcón, Bosquesur is one of the largest urban green corridors in the southern Community of Madrid — 600 hectares of planted pine and oak woodland threaded with cycling paths, picnic areas and a small lake that attracts migrating waterfowl in autumn. Most visitors are locals; international tourists rarely find it.
Trails and Wildlife
The main circular trail runs for approximately 8 km through mixed woodland of stone pine (Pinus pinea), holm oak (Quercus ilex) and introduced poplar, with clear waymarking and gentle gradients suitable for all ages. In spring the understorey fills with rockrose (Cistus ladanifer) and wild lavender, and the air smells extraordinary.
Birders should bring binoculars: the park regularly records hoopoes, short-toed treecreepers, red kites and, at the small lake (Laguna de Bosquesur), little grebes and common coots. October is the peak month for migrant waders passing through.
Cycling, Picnics and Practical Tips
A dedicated cycling lane runs the full length of the park and connects via the Carril Bici del Río Guadarrama to a wider network that can take you all the way to the river itself. Bike hire is not available inside the park, but several shops in central Móstoles rent hybrid bikes by the hour.
The park has several well-maintained picnic areas with stone tables and barbecue grills available free of charge on a first-come basis. Weekend mornings from March to June fill up quickly; arrive before 11:00 to secure a spot.
