Mont d'Arbois Summit
Ride the Télécabine du Mont d'Arbois straight to 1,833 metres and find yourself face-to-face with Mont Blanc's full snowy bulk, the Aravis range and the Beaufortain massif spread out like a relief map. Whether you come in winter for ski runs or in summer for hiking trails, the view never disappoints.
The ride up
The gondola departs from the edge of Megève village and climbs through dense pine forest before bursting out onto open alpine pasture. The journey takes roughly ten minutes and the views begin long before you reach the top.
At the summit station, a broad terrace faces Mont Blanc directly. On a clear morning the light hits the glacier and turns it a pale gold — bring a camera and arrive early before the clouds build.
Summer vs winter
In winter the Mont d'Arbois plateau links Megève's ski area to Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, giving access to more than 445 km of pistes across the Evasion Mont Blanc domain. Ski straight from the summit restaurant back to the village.
In summer the same slopes become a network of waymarked hiking and mountain-biking trails. The Tour du Mont d'Arbois loop takes about three hours and passes through wildflower meadows dotted with grazing Tarentaise cattle.
Eating at altitude
The restaurant Le 1920, inside the Hôtel Mont-Blanc at the summit, serves a refined alpine lunch with Mont Blanc framed in every window. Reserve ahead in peak season — tables fill fast.
For something more casual, the self-service chalet beside the gondola station does honest tartiflette and vin chaud at reasonable prices for a ski resort.
