Playa de la Reya & Bolnuevo's Sandstone Towers
Just south of Bolnuevo village, the desert-like sandstone formations known as Las Gredas rise straight from the beach like a miniature Cappadocia — golden, wind-carved pillars that glow amber at sunset. Pair them with the calm, shallow waters of Playa de la Reya next door and you have one of the most photogenic stretches of coastline in the whole Region of Murcia.
The Gredas up close
Walk the short signed path that winds between the eroded columns and arches of Las Gredas de Bolnuevo — the formations are officially protected and constantly changing shape as the wind does its slow sculpting work.
Early morning is the best time to visit: the low-angle light turns the sandstone deep orange, the crowds are thin, and the only sounds are waves and seabirds. Bring a wide-angle lens or simply stand still and let the scale sink in.
Beach life at Playa de la Reya
The beach immediately in front of Bolnuevo is broad, gently shelved and backed by low dunes — perfect for families and anyone who wants calm, crystal-clear Mediterranean water without a party atmosphere.
A handful of chiringuitos (beach bars) serve cold Estrella Levante beer and fresh-grilled fish through summer, so you can spend a full day moving between the rock formations and the sea.
