What to Buy and Taste
The food stalls are the real draw: look for Bages-grown tomàquet de penjar (hanging tomatoes), local honey from the Montserrat foothills, fresh goat's cheese from nearby farms, and seasonal mushrooms — especially ceps in autumn — brought down from the pre-Pyrenean forests by small-scale foragers.
Charcuterie stalls carry the cured meats of the region, including llonganissa de Vic sausage and locally made fuet. Grab a paper cone of olives marinated in herbs and citrus from the olive vendor who sets up near the fountain — it is one of those small pleasures that makes a market visit memorable.
The Square Itself and Surrounding Streets
The Plaça de la Plana de l'Om is a handsome, tree-lined square that doubles as the social heart of the city. Even on non-market days, its café terraces are packed with locals drinking cortados and reading newspapers — a good place to absorb the unhurried pace of Manresa life.
The streets immediately surrounding the square — particularly Carrer de les Piques and Carrer del Born — are lined with independent food shops, bakeries and old-fashioned hardware stores that have barely changed in decades.
