Signal de Roselette (1,852 m)
Reached by the Roselette gondola in just eight minutes, this sunny balcony above Les Contamines delivers a sweeping 360-degree panorama that takes in Mont Blanc, the Aravis range and the Beaufortain massif — all without the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds of Chamonix's famous viewpoints.
The view and what you can see
From the terrace at Signal de Roselette you can identify Mont Blanc (4,808 m) to the north-east, the rocky teeth of the Aiguilles Rouges to the north, and the rolling dairy pastures of the Beaufortain falling away to the south — it is a rare vantage point that shows both the savage and the pastoral Alps simultaneously.
At sunrise the east-facing slopes catch the first light and the Mont Blanc massif turns a deep coral pink — what the French call alpenglühen — before the valley below has even woken up.
Summer activities at the top
The plateau around Roselette is laced with easy marked trails suitable for families and non-hikers. The loop to the Lac de Roselette (1,858 m) takes about 45 minutes and rewards with a mirror-still reflection of the surrounding peaks on calm mornings.
Mountain bikers descend the grassy slopes on dedicated trails back to the village — rental shops in Les Contamines offer full-suspension bikes and helmets for the day.
Winter perspective
In ski season Roselette is the hub of the Les Contamines-Hauteluce ski area, with wide intermediate runs sweeping down through larch forest. The view from the top of the Roselette chair is arguably better in winter when fresh snow coats every ridge.
The restaurant at the gondola mid-station, Le Chalet de Roselette, serves a solid Savoyard lunch with the panorama as a free side dish.
