Restaurante Casa Antonio
On a quiet street in the old city, Casa Antonio has been feeding Jaén's most discerning eaters since 1956, evolving from a traditional taberna into a Michelin-recognised restaurant without ever losing the warmth or the anchoring flavour of local olive oil that defines the cooking here.
What to Order
The signature dish is lomo de orza — pork loin cured and slow-cooked in olive oil in a ceramic pot, a technique that predates refrigeration and produces meat of extraordinary tenderness with a flavour that is simultaneously rich and clean.
For starters, the berenjenas con miel de caña (fried aubergine with cane molasses) are a masterclass in Moorish-influenced Andalusian cooking: crisp, sweet, slightly bitter and impossible to stop eating. Order two portions.
The Wine List and Setting
The dining room is all exposed stone, dark wood and white tablecloths — unpretentious but genuinely elegant. The wine list leans heavily into Jaén's underrated local DOP Condado de Jaén whites, which pair brilliantly with the oil-forward cooking.
Lunch is the main event here: a three-course menú del día runs around €18–22 and represents extraordinary value for the quality. Book at least a day ahead for Friday or Saturday lunch.
