Mercat d'Inca (Thursday Market)
Every Thursday morning the streets around Plaça d'Espanya explode into one of the largest open-air markets in the Balearic Islands, drawing locals and visitors alike with hundreds of stalls selling leather goods, fresh produce, ceramics and clothing. Arrive before 9 am to beat the crowds and watch the town transform from sleepy provincial capital into a buzzing Mediterranean marketplace.
What to Buy
Inca is the leather capital of Mallorca, and the Thursday market is the best place to see that heritage in action — stalls pile high with handstitched belts, bags and shoes at prices far below what you'd pay in Palma boutiques.
Look beyond leather for strings of dried figs, locally produced sobrassada sausage, almond pastries and the famous Mallorcan ensaïmada pastry, all sold by producers who have been setting up on the same cobblestones for generations.
Navigating the Market
The market fans out across several streets radiating from Plaça d'Espanya and Carrer de Jaume Armengol — give yourself at least two hours to cover the full circuit without rushing.
After shopping, duck into any of the old leather-worker cafés on Carrer del Bisbe Llompart for a cortado and a slice of coca de patata before the stalls start packing up around 1 pm.
