Roca Moo & the El Celler de Can Roca Universe

Girona is one of the most exciting cities in the world to eat in, largely because the Roca brothers — Joan, Josep and Jordi — have built a culinary empire here that ranges from the three-Michelin-starred El Celler de Can Roca (repeatedly named the world's best restaurant) down to accessible, brilliant options that don't require a six-month wait. You can taste their genius without the year-long boo

El Celler de Can Roca: The Full Experience

El Celler de Can Roca on Carrer de Can Sunyer is a pilgrimage for serious food lovers: a 25-course tasting menu that weaves Catalan tradition with avant-garde technique, perfume-inspired desserts and a wine list curated by sommelier Josep Roca that is simply one of the greatest in the world. Reservations open on specific dates each season and sell out within hours — set a calendar reminder and book the moment the window opens.

The restaurant itself, designed by architect Anna Noguera, is a calm, beautiful space of pale wood and natural light that puts diners entirely at ease despite the ambition of what's being served. Lunch and dinner sittings are available; the lunch menu is marginally shorter but no less extraordinary.

Accessible Roca Alternatives

For those who can't secure a table at El Celler, the brothers' Casa Cacao on Plaça de l'Oli in the old town offers single-origin chocolate creations, artisan ice creams and a small boutique hotel — the hot chocolate alone justifies the visit. Normal Girona, their casual restaurant on Carrer de la Força, serves a brilliant €18 set lunch of market-driven Catalan dishes with no reservation required.

Beyond the Roca empire, Girona's old town has a thriving independent restaurant scene. Le Bistrot on Plaça de Sant Domènec serves excellent French-Catalan cooking in a vaulted stone room, and Divinum on Carrer Albereda is the go-to spot for natural Catalan wines paired with local charcuterie.
