Ses Illetes Beach
Ses Illetes is the beach that makes grown adults stop mid-sentence and stare. A double-sided sandbar of powdered white sand flanked by water so transparently turquoise it looks digitally enhanced — yet every grain of it is real.
Why it stops you in your tracks
Ses Illetes stretches north from La Savina along a narrow peninsula, with the open Mediterranean on one side and the sheltered lagoon of Estany Pudent on the other. The result is a rare double-beach effect where you can wade between two entirely different shades of blue within a few steps.
The water clarity here is driven by Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows — a UNESCO-protected ecosystem that filters the sea to near-Caribbean visibility. Snorkellers regularly spot octopus, sea bream and starfish without leaving waist-deep water.
How to make the most of it
Arrive before 10 a.m. in July and August, or you will be competing with day-trippers ferried over from Ibiza on glass-bottomed boats. The northern tip, near the rocks at Punta de sa Gavina, stays quieter all day and rewards those willing to walk the extra ten minutes.
Rent a sunbed at one of the chiringuito beach bars — Juan y Andrea is the most famous, serving grilled fish and cold rosado to a soundtrack of lapping waves. Booking a table for lunch weeks in advance is not an exaggeration.
