Ses Illetes Beach
Ses Illetes is consistently ranked among Europe's finest beaches, a slender spit of white sand edged by water so clear and turquoise it looks digitally enhanced. Arriving here feels like stepping into a postcard that nobody told you was real.
The Beach Itself
Ses Illetes stretches along the northern tip of the La Mola peninsula, flanked by shallow lagoons on both sides so you are never more than a few metres from glittering water. The sand is powdery and pale, the kind that stays cool even in July, and the sea floor is carpeted in Posidonia oceanica seagrass that keeps the water impossibly transparent.
At the far northern end a small sandbar connects to the island of S'Espalmador, which you can wade or paddle-board across to at low tide for total seclusion. The contrast between the two islands — one buzzing with day-trippers, one almost empty — makes the short crossing feel like a genuine adventure.
Getting There & Staying Comfortable
The easiest approach is by bicycle along the flat coastal path from La Savina ferry port, a 4 km ride that takes about 20 minutes and lets you stop at the salt flats to watch flamingos on the way. Alternatively, water taxis run from La Savina harbour throughout the day in summer.
Sunbeds and parasols are available for hire from the beach bar Juan y Andrea, one of the most celebrated seafood restaurants in the Balearics. Arrive before 10 am in August to secure a prime spot; by midday every patch of sand has a towel on it.
