Mercato Ortofrutticolo Coperto di Forlì
Tucked behind Corso della Repubblica, Forlì's covered produce market has been feeding the city since the early 20th century and remains stubbornly, wonderfully local. Arrive before 9 am on a Saturday and you'll find farmers from the Bidente valley unloading peaches, piadina flatbreads still warm from the testo griddle, and wheels of Formaggio di Fossa that smell like a happy cave.
What to Buy
In summer, fill a bag with Forlì's celebrated flat peaches (pesche tabacchiere) and the small, intensely sweet Mora di Romagna mulberries — both varieties rarely travel far from the region so this is your best chance to taste them.
The salumi stalls are a lesson in Romagnol curing: look for lonza (cured pork loin), ciccioli (crispy pork cracklings pressed into a loaf) and the local cotechino sausage, all made by producers whose families have held stalls here for generations.
Eating on the Spot
Several stalls sell piadina romagnola to order — the thin, unleavened flatbread cooked on a cast-iron testo and stuffed with squacquerone cheese and rocket is the definitive Forlì breakfast.
A small counter near the central aisle pours Albana di Romagna DOCG by the glass from 10 am, making this arguably the most civilised mid-morning stop in the city.
Timing Your Visit
The market runs Monday to Saturday, roughly 07:00–13:30, with Saturday being the liveliest day when outdoor stalls spill onto the surrounding streets.
By 12:30 the best produce is gone and vendors begin packing up, so set your alarm and treat the market as the first act of your Forlì morning.
