Torre del Castello Panorama
Climbing the main tower of the Carraresi castle rewards you with one of the most satisfying panoramas in the southern Veneto: the red-tiled rooftops of Este in the foreground, the volcanic cone hills of the Colli Euganei rolling westward, and on clear winter days the white streak of the Dolomites on the northern horizon.
The Climb & the View
The tower is accessed via a narrow stone staircase of around 80 steps — steep but manageable for most visitors. The viewing platform at the top is open to the elements, so bring a layer even in summer when afternoon breezes pick up.
The view north-west towards the Colli Euganei Regional Park is particularly striking: the isolated volcanic hills rise abruptly from the flat Po Plain, and you can pick out the silhouette of Arquà Petrarca's hilltop village and the towers of Monselice to the south-east.
Best Times to Visit
Sunrise and the hour before sunset deliver the most dramatic light, turning the plains golden while the hills go blue-purple. Winter mornings after a cold front passes offer the best chance of seeing the Dolomites — bring binoculars.
The tower is included in the Museo Nazionale Atestino ticket, so there is no additional cost to ascend once you have paid museum entry.
