La Table Kobus
Tucked a short walk from the Avenue de Champagne, La Table Kobus is the kind of unpretentious French bistro that locals actually eat in — white tablecloths, a chalkboard menu that changes with the market and a wine list that reads like a love letter to the Marne valley. The andouillette and the slow-braised joue de boeuf are the dishes regulars order without looking at the menu.
The Kitchen & the Cellar
Chef-patron Nicolas Kobus keeps the menu tightly seasonal: in autumn expect game terrines with pickled mushrooms and a Champagne-vinegar dressing; in spring, white asparagus from the Marne with a mousseline sauce light enough to float. Portions are generous without being aggressive.
The wine list is where Kobus really shines — over 200 references spanning grower Champagnes, still Coteaux Champenois whites and reds (the region's lesser-known still wines), and a thoughtful selection of Burgundies. The sommelier is knowledgeable and refreshingly unsnobby about budget.
Practical Details
The dining room holds around 40 covers across two intimate rooms; the smaller back room with exposed stone walls is the one to request. Lunch is the better-value session — a two-course formule runs around €28 and includes a glass of Champagne as an aperitif.
Reservations are essential on Friday and Saturday evenings and strongly recommended for Saturday lunch. The restaurant closes Sunday evenings and all day Monday.
