Mercado Semanal de Ejea (Thursday Market)
Every Thursday morning the streets around the town centre of Ejea fill with stalls selling fresh Cinco Villas produce, clothing, ceramics and household goods in a market tradition that has anchored local commerce for generations. It is the single best place to taste the agricultural pulse of this fertile corner of Aragon.
What to buy and eat
The food stalls are the real draw: look for locally grown white asparagus in spring, braided strings of Ñora peppers in autumn, and wheels of artisan cheese from nearby farms. Vendors from the Bardena and the Ebro valley bring seasonal vegetables that rarely make it to supermarket shelves.
Charcutería stalls offer cured longaniza sausage and jamón from Aragonese black-hoof pigs — buy a vacuum-packed portion as an edible souvenir that travels well. Prices are noticeably lower than in Zaragoza, and bargaining with a smile is quietly accepted.
The social ritual
Locals treat Thursday market as a social event as much as a shopping trip, and the bars ringing the market area fill up with farmers and neighbours sharing a mid-morning caña and a pincho. Pull up a stool at any counter and you will overhear the real conversation of the town.
The market wraps up by 14:00, so arrive before noon to catch the full spread. Parking is available on the outskirts of the market zone; the town is compact enough to walk the stalls in under an hour.
