Marché de Combloux
The weekly market in neighbouring Combloux — less than five minutes by car from Domancy — is one of the most authentic and least touristy in the Mont Blanc region. Stalls spill across the sunny village square with the full massif as a backdrop that would look staged if it weren't entirely real.
What to Buy
Look for reblochon fermier sold directly by Aravis valley farmers — the raw-milk rounds wrapped in paper are a world apart from supermarket versions. Alongside them you will find tomme de Savoie, beaufort d'alpage and small rounds of sérac frais, a fresh whey cheese eaten with honey.
Local honey producers set up next to herb and dried-flower stalls, and a couple of vendors sell house-made charcuterie including diots (Savoyard pork sausages) and lonzo. Arrive before 10 am for the best selection before the cheese rounds sell out.
Beyond the Food Stalls
A handful of artisan stalls offer hand-carved wooden utensils, locally printed linen and hand-knitted wool items — the kind of practical craft souvenirs that actually get used at home. The quality is noticeably higher than the souvenir shops in Chamonix.
After shopping, take a coffee at one of the café terraces on the square and watch the market wind down. The view of Mont Blanc from Combloux's terrace is famous enough to have appeared in countless travel magazines, and it costs nothing to sit and stare.
