Le Coin du Feu, Megève

Domancy sits at the foot of Megève, one of France's most celebrated mountain villages, and Le Coin du Feu is the address locals point visitors toward when they want a genuinely memorable Savoyard meal rather than a tourist-trap fondue. The dining room's log fire and chalet-dark timber panelling set the scene perfectly.

What to Order

The fondue savoyarde here uses a three-cheese blend — beaufort, comté and emmental de Savoie — that is noticeably more complex and less stringy than cheaper versions. Order the half-portion if you are two people sharing starters; it is generous.

The raclette is done tableside with a proper half-wheel of raw-milk cheese held under a dedicated heater, scraped onto waxy potatoes from the Tarentaise valley. Finish with a tarte aux myrtilles — the bilberries come from the slopes above Megève and taste nothing like blueberries from a punnet.

Practical Tips

Reservations are essential on weekends and every night in ski season (December–April) and in July–August. The restaurant fills with a mix of well-heeled Parisians on holiday and local farming families celebrating birthdays, which gives it an energy that feels genuinely French rather than staged.

The wine list leans heavily on Savoie appellations — ask for a bottle of Chignin-Bergeron (roussanne grape) to pair with the fondue; its slight mineral bitterness cuts through the cheese beautifully.
