Ermita de Nuestra Señora de las Nieves
A fifteen-minute walk from the town centre along a dirt track, this small 16th-century hermitage sits alone in a shallow valley of holm oaks and rockroses, visited by almost no tourists and used mainly by locals for a quiet Sunday stroll.
The Hermitage Itself
The whitewashed chapel is a compact Mudéjar-influenced structure with a single nave and a simple carved stone doorway. The interior is only accessible during occasional feast-day masses, but the exterior and the shaded courtyard with its old well are always open and peaceful.
It is the kind of place that feels genuinely undiscovered — no signage in English, no ticket booth, no gift shop. Just rough stone, wild lavender and the sound of wind in the oaks.
The Walk There
Follow Calle de las Nieves south from the town's main roundabout and continue on the unpaved track past almond orchards. In spring the verges are thick with poppies, wild chamomile and asphodels, making the walk as rewarding as the destination.
Combine it with a picnic — there are flat rocks in the oak shade beside the chapel that are perfect for spreading out bread, manchego and olives bought from the morning market.
