Restaurante Casa Elías

Tucked into the old town, Casa Elías has been feeding Cieza families for decades with a menu rooted in the ingredients of the Ricote Valley — slow-cooked migas, lamb from the sierra, and seasonal vegetable dishes that change with whatever is best at the Mercado de Abastos that morning. No theatre, just excellent regional cooking.

What to Order

The migas murcianas — breadcrumbs fried slowly with olive oil, garlic, pimentón and local pork cuts — is the dish that regulars return for, best ordered as a starter to share. Follow it with the cordero al ajillo (garlic lamb) or, in summer, a chilled piperana salad of tomatoes, peppers and tuna that is deceptively simple and completely satisfying.

The menu del día, served Monday to Friday at lunch, is exceptional value at around €12–14 for three courses with bread and a glass of local Jumilla wine included. It is how the city's working population eats well every day without fuss.

The Atmosphere and the Wine

The dining room is unfussy — tiled walls, wooden chairs, a blackboard specials list — and the service is the warm, efficient kind that comes from a family-run place that has nothing to prove. Reservations are recommended on Friday and Saturday evenings when locals fill every table.

Jumilla, the DO wine region immediately north of Cieza, produces some of Spain's most characterful Monastrell reds, and Casa Elías keeps a well-chosen short list. Ask the owner for a recommendation and he will match the wine to whatever you have ordered without hesitation.
