Cima Cermis via the Fiemme Gondola

A two-stage cable car whisks you from the edge of Cavalese to the 2,230-metre summit of Cima Cermis in under fifteen minutes, delivering a 360-degree sweep of the Dolomites, the Lagorai chain and, on clear days, the distant Ortler massif. The top station has open-air terraces where the silence is broken only by the wind and the occasional clink of a prosecco glass.

The Ride Up

The Cabinovia Cavalese–Cima Cermis departs from a modern base station on Via Pontaria, and the cabins are large enough to carry skis in winter and mountain bikes in summer — so the crowd is always a cheerful mix of athletes and sightseers.

Watch the valley floor shrink beneath you as spruce forests give way to alpine meadows dotted with gentian and edelweiss; the transition happens fast and feels genuinely dramatic.

What Awaits at the Top

The Rifugio Cermis sits just below the summit and serves local craft beers alongside plates of speck and aged Trentingrana cheese — the perfect excuse to linger while the light shifts across the peaks.

In summer, the Bike Park Cermis turns the slopes into a network of graded downhill trails, but even non-cyclists can walk the short signed loop around the summit ridge for unobstructed Dolomite views.

Timing Your Visit

Golden hour before sunset is the single best moment: the limestone towers of the Pale di San Martino blush amber while the Val di Fiemme valley below fills with blue shadow.

Midweek visits in July and early September see the shortest queues; weekends in August can mean a 20-minute wait at the base station.
