Every weekday morning the covered market on Via Curiel wakes up the town long before the beach umbrellas open, filling the air with the scent of ripe peaches, cured meats and fresh-baked piadina. This is where locals actually shop, and spending an hour here gives you an honest, unhurried glimpse of Romagnolo daily life that no restaurant or tourist brochure can replicate.
What to Buy
The fruit and vegetable stalls are stacked with local nectarines, figs and the flat Romagna peaches (percoche) that are so ripe they drip down your wrist — far superior to anything sold near the beach.
The salumeria counters display squacquerone (the soft, tangy cheese that belongs inside a piadina), prosciutto di Parma sliced to order and cylinders of mortadella the size of a small child.
The Weekly Outdoor Market
On Wednesday and Saturday mornings a larger street market expands into the surrounding streets, adding clothing, household goods and more food vendors — the kind of chaotic, cheerful Italian market that feels like it hasn't changed since 1975.
