Uludağ National Park via the Bursa Teleferik
Bursa's 2,543-metre backdrop is not just scenery — it's a full-blown national park reachable in under 30 minutes by the world's longest monocable gondola. Whether you come for winter skiing or summer hiking, Uludağ is the reason Bursa is called Turkey's Green Pearl.
The World's Longest Gondola Ride
The Bursa Teleferik, rebuilt in 2014 by LEITNER Ropeways, stretches 8.8 kilometres from the Teferrüç base station at the southern edge of the city up to the Uludağ hotel and ski zone — officially the world's longest monocable detachable gondola. The 174 eight-seater cabins carry up to 1,500 passengers an hour, and the 22-to-25-minute ride is an attraction in its own right.
As the cabin climbs, the landscape transforms from Bursa's terracotta rooftops to dense pine and beech forest, then opens onto alpine meadows. The panorama of the city laid out below, with the Sea of Marmara glinting on clear days, is one of the great free views in Turkey.
What Awaits at the Top
The intermediate stop at Sarıalan (1,630 m) is ideal for summer day-trippers: there are marked hiking trails, picnic areas, restaurants and forest walks through Uludağ National Park's protected beech woodland. In winter, the upper hotel zone becomes one of Turkey's premier ski resorts, with pistes for all levels and equipment rental on-site.
The mountain is also the ancient Bithynian Olympus — the sacred peak that ancient Greek and Roman settlers believed touched the heavens. That sense of elevation, both literal and mythological, hasn't entirely faded.
Planning Your Ascent
Take a taxi or city bus marked 'Teleferik' from central Bursa to the Teferrüç base station — about 10 to 20 minutes depending on traffic. Dress in layers even in summer: the summit can be 10–15°C cooler than the city. Check weather conditions before you go, as strong winds and fog can pause service.
