Haji Lane & Kampong Glam

Just 300 metres long, Haji Lane packs more personality per square foot than almost anywhere else in Singapore — a narrow, pastel-painted shophouse alley where rotating street murals, independent boutiques, and buzzing café terraces collide in one gloriously photogenic strip. It's a vibrant shopping destination by afternoon and a lively nightlife hotspot after dark.

Street Art That Tells a Story

The murals on Haji Lane aren't mere decoration — each piece celebrates Singapore's multicultural heritage, and they change regularly, so there's always something new to discover even on a return visit.

The best time for photography is before 10 AM, when the morning light hits the painted facades and you can capture the lane without the afternoon crowds pressing in.

Beyond the murals, the lane pulses with independent boutiques selling everything from vintage designer pieces to locally crafted jewellery — a world away from the chain-store uniformity of the big malls.

Arab Street & the Textile Quarter

One block west, Arab Street is the old trading spine of Kampong Glam — bolts of silk, batik, lace, and brocade stacked floor to ceiling in shops that have sold fabric for generations. Even if you're not buying, stepping inside one of these textile houses is a genuine time-warp.

Look out for the attar (perfume oil) shops and carpet dealers tucked between the fabric stores. Bargaining is part of the game; chat with the owner and don't be shy — it's expected and friendly.

% Arabica at 56 Arab Street is the neighbourhood's cult coffee stop: a sleek Japanese-minimalist café serving top-tier espresso and single-origin beans, perfect for a mid-wander refuel.

After Dark on Haji Lane

As the sun drops, Haji Lane shifts gear entirely — outdoor seating spills onto the lane, music drifts from open doorways, and the whole strip takes on a warm, festive glow. Solo travellers consistently find it safe, welcoming, and easy to strike up conversation.

Good Luck Beerhouse is a local favourite: craft beer bar by night, specialty coffee joint by day, with local brews and laid-back vibes right in the heart of the lane.
