Ruheforst Valwigerberg Panorama Viewpoint
Perched on the wooded heights of the Valwigerberg above Bruttig-Fankel, the Ruheforst panorama viewpoint delivers one of the Lower Moselle's most sweeping vistas — the river curling through its valley far below, with the rooftops of Ernst and Bruttig-Fankel nestled among vineyards. It is a view that stops conversation mid-sentence.
What you see from the top
From the Ruheforst viewpoint on Valwigerberg, the full sweep of the Moselle Krampen — the great river loop around which Bruttig-Fankel sits — unfolds below you. The villages of Ernst and Bruttig-Fankel are both visible, stitched between steep vineyard terraces and the glinting river.
On clear days the view extends across to the forested ridges of the Hunsrück plateau, creating a layered panorama of river, vine and forest that is quintessentially Moselle.
Getting there and when to go
The viewpoint is reached on foot via the Moselsteig long-distance trail or the circular Bruttig-Fankel to Valwig hike, which combines the Moselsteig on the ascent with the Breva-Weg themed trail on the descent. The climb from the village takes around 45–60 minutes at a steady pace.
Autumn is the undisputed star season: the vine leaves turn amber and copper, and the early-morning mist fills the valley before burning off to reveal the full panorama. Sunrise visits in October are genuinely unforgettable.
