Wapping Wharf & Cargo

On the south side of Bristol's historic floating harbour, a row of stacked shipping containers has been transformed into one of the most atmospheric food-and-drink destinations in the UK. Cargo at Wapping Wharf is Bristol's most Instagram-worthy food spot — and the cooking is every bit as good as the views.

A Harbourside Food Village

Stacked shipping containers converted into food units line the waterfront, creating a vibrant open-air dining experience unlike anything else in the city. The variety is genuinely impressive: from wood-fired pizza to Korean fried chicken, craft beer taprooms to artisan ice cream, the whole spectrum of Bristol's bold, independent food scene is compressed into one walkable stretch.

Cargo sits right on the harbourside, so almost every seat comes with a view of the water and the boats moored alongside. On warm evenings the whole area fills with locals and visitors spilling out onto the quayside — it gets lively on weekend evenings, so arriving early to grab a spot outside by the water is the smart move.

The wider Wapping Wharf development also includes the Bristol Cider Shop, which stocks over 100 types of local artisan cider carefully fermented within 50 miles of the city — a perfect introduction to the region's most distinctive drink.

What to Eat & Drink

The food offer rotates as new independent operators open and evolve, but the emphasis is always on quality sourcing and bold flavours. Look out for Pinkmans bakery nearby on Park Street, voted among the top 25 bakeries in the UK, where the signature sourdough doughnuts — light, fluffy, and piped with seasonal cream fillings — have developed a devoted following.

For a broader taste of the waterfront, the SS Great Britain and M Shed museum are both a short walk along the harbourside from Cargo, making this a natural anchor for a full afternoon of eating, drinking, and exploring Bristol's maritime history.

Getting There

Wapping Wharf is a 10-minute walk from Bristol Temple Meads station along the harbourside path, or a short ride on the Bristol Ferry Boats service that connects key points around the harbour. The ferry is itself a pleasure — it's the most enjoyable way to arrive.
