Box Hill Farmers Market
Every Sunday morning the Main Crescent car park in Box Hill transforms into one of Melbourne's most genuine farmers markets — 74 stalls of local growers, bakers, artisan food makers and street food vendors that reward early risers with the best of the season.
What to Expect at the Stalls
This is a proper market — not a handful of stalls in a car park, but a full 74-vendor spread that draws serious produce hunters from across Melbourne's eastern suburbs. Expect seasonal mushrooms in extraordinary variety, house-made chilli sauces, fresh-baked sourdough and loaves, bunches of cut flowers and local honey alongside the staple fruit and vegetable runs.
Street food at the market is a meal in itself: gozleme sizzling on a flat griddle, hand-folded dumplings, poffertjes dusted with icing sugar and long-blacks from a specialty coffee roaster who knows their craft. Budget around AUD $30–50 and you'll eat well and carry home a week's worth of produce.
There is reportedly an unmarked stall toward the back of the market that produces some of the best homemade jams in Box Hill — ask around, because it has no signage and sells out fast. This is the kind of insider detail that makes early arrival worthwhile.
Timing, Getting There and Insider Tips
The market runs every Sunday from 8am to 1pm, but the best stalls sell out by 11am — so set an alarm and get there early. Parking fills quickly around the Main Crescent car park; try the side streets off Park Road for easier access, or simply take the train to Box Hill station and walk five minutes.
The vibe is relaxed and family-friendly, with dogs on leads welcome and plenty of room for prams. After shopping, the gardens and cafe strips of Box Hill are right on your doorstep — making this an easy anchor for a full Sunday morning itinerary.
