Bowen Community Sunday Markets at Hansen Park

Every Sunday morning, Hansen Park beside Queens Bay transforms into one of tropical Queensland's most cheerful outdoor markets — a shady, dog-friendly gathering under ancient trees where local growers, artisans and street-food vendors set up 50-plus stalls with the sound of live music drifting across the shell beach.

What to expect at the stalls

The market runs year-round from 7 am to noon and mixes fresh tropical produce — think locally grown mangoes, tomatoes and capsicums for which the Bowen region is famous — with handmade jewellery, Balinese clothing and artefacts, plants, fishing gear and an eclectic spread of craft and homewares.

Street-food stalls serve cooked breakfasts, fresh coffee, tropical fruit smoothies and a rotating cast of international bites, making it easy to turn a browse into a leisurely morning meal with a sea breeze.

The Hansen Park setting

The park sits right beside the shell-strewn beach of Queens Bay, so after the market you can walk directly onto the sand or pick up the sealed coastal path towards Grays Bay and Horseshoe Bay.

The atmosphere is genuinely local — families, grey nomads, backpackers and farmers all share the same patch of shade, and the live entertainment gives the whole scene a relaxed, festive energy that bigger city markets rarely manage.
