Digbeth — Birmingham's Creative Quarter

A ten-minute walk from New Street station, Digbeth is the city's most electrifying neighbourhood — a post-industrial grid of Victorian warehouses plastered in world-class street art, humming with independent studios, record shops and the legendary Digbeth Dining Club street food events. Time Out recently named it the second coolest neighbourhood in the UK, and locals have known it for years.

Street Art Capital of the Midlands

Digbeth's brick walls are a rotating open-air gallery — internationally commissioned murals cover entire warehouse facades along Floodgate Street, Gibb Street and the railway arches. The neighbourhood is home to the Custard Factory, a sprawling creative complex of independent shops, studios, vintage markets and event spaces housed in the former Bird's Custard factory. Wander in on any weekend and you are likely to find a vinyl fair, a pop-up gallery or a craft market in full swing.

The area's industrial bones are being carefully preserved even as new venues arrive. Boxpark Birmingham opened in 2025, adding another cluster of street food traders and bars to the mix, while the BBC is due to relocate here by 2027 — cementing Digbeth's status as Birmingham's next great urban neighbourhood.

Eat Your Way Around the World

Digbeth Dining Club is Birmingham's premier street food institution, rotating across around a dozen venues in the area with independent kitchens serving everything from Korean BBQ to Trinidadian roti. Multiple venues host hundreds of diners alongside live music and local craft beer — check social media for the current schedule as locations shift.

The neighbourhood also rewards slow exploration on foot: duck into the railway arches for independent bars, follow the canal south from Gas Street Basin to discover quieter stretches of towpath, and keep an eye out for the Victorian St Anne's Church, a striking Gothic silhouette rising above the corrugated rooflines.
