Parque Natural Posets-Maladeta

Home to Aneto, the highest peak in the Pyrenees at 3,404 m, this protected park wraps Benasque in a cathedral of granite, glaciers and emerald valleys. Whether you hike, scramble or simply stare, the scale of it is genuinely humbling.

Aneto and the Maladeta Massif

The classic ascent of Aneto begins at the Refugio de la Renclusa (2,140 m) and takes experienced hikers around 7-9 hours return, crossing the famous Glacier de la Maladeta — one of the last surviving Pyrenean glaciers.

Even if summiting is not on your agenda, the trail up to the refugio alone delivers jaw-dropping views of serrated ridgelines and ice-blue meltwater pools that feel lifted from a documentary.

Valley Walks for Every Level

The Vall de Estós and the Ibón de Cregüeña circuits are gentler alternatives, threading through pine forest and wildflower meadows before arriving at mirror-still alpine lakes.

Spring and early summer bring an explosion of Pyrenean iris, gentian and edelweiss along these lower paths — a botanical show that rivals the mountain drama above.
