Teleférico de Benalmádena & Mount Calamorro Summit
A 15-minute gondola ride whisks you from sea level to the 800-metre summit of Mount Calamorro, where the entire Costa del Sol unfolds beneath you like a map — and on a clear day, the mountains of Morocco float on the horizon. This is Benalmádena's most breathtaking vantage point, full stop.
The Ride and the View
The cable car glides silently over Mediterranean scrubland and limestone outcrops, giving you aerial perspectives of Puerto Marina and the coastline long before you reach the top — keep your camera ready from the moment the cabin lifts off.
At the summit, the panorama sweeps across the whole Bay of Málaga, the Sierra Nevada snowfields to the east, Gibraltar's famous rock to the west, and, on the clearest winter mornings, the distinct outline of the African coast across the Strait.
Trails and Lookouts at the Top
The upper station sits next to a Northern Lookout where a moderately difficult trail offers views of the Mijas mountain range separating the western Costa del Sol from the Guadalhorce Valley — a perspective most beach tourists never see.
Benalmádena's municipal trail network extends to nearly 45 kilometres of marked paths through the Sierra, so walkers can descend on foot through Mediterranean vegetation while the cable car whisks their bags back down.
Falconry and Family Fun
The summit plateau hosts daily falconry displays where eagles and hawks perform free-flight demonstrations against the open sky — a highlight for children and a genuinely spectacular spectacle for any visitor.
Arrive early on summer mornings to beat the heat and the queues; the light is also softer and the African coast more likely to be visible before midday haze builds up.
