Maisel's Beer Experience World
Part working craft brewery, part jaw-dropping industrial museum, Maisel's Beer Experience World is the most fun you can have indoors in Bayreuth — and you get a cold Weisse at the end. Upper Franconia is statistically one of the most beer-dense regions on earth, and this is its cathedral.
Steam Engines, Copper Kettles & Enamel Signs
Spread across 4,500 square metres of a crenellated 1887 brewery building, the tour winds past powerful steam engines, gleaming copper kettles and the old hop room before opening into a vast collection of international beer glasses, historic mugs and enamel advertising signs.
The brewing equipment has been preserved in its original working condition, so this is not a sanitised replica — it is the real thing, unchanged and still smelling faintly of malt.
Old Craft Meets New Obsession
Beyond the historical floors, the route swings through the ultra-modern Maisel & Friends Brew Workshop, where the fourth generation of the Maisel family crafts experimental craft beers full of inventiveness — IPAs, barrel-aged sours and seasonal specials sit alongside the classic Maisel's Weisse.
Beer seminars run regularly in the Experience World, where you can work towards an actual beer diploma and become a certified Franconian connoisseur.
Don't Miss the Catacombs
Book a separate guided tour through Bayreuth's subterranean tunnel network — rock cellars once used for beer storage and later as air-raid shelters — that snake beneath the city streets directly from the brewery site.
Tours can be conducted in English on request, making this accessible for international visitors who want the full underground story.
