Museo del Vino de Somontano
Housed inside the medieval Palacio de los Argensola, Barbastro's wine museum is the beating heart of the Somontano DO — one of Spain's most exciting wine regions. Interactive displays trace viticulture from Roman amphorae to modern boutique bodegas, and the tasting room at the end is entirely non-negotiable.
A Palace Full of Stories
The 16th-century palace itself is worth the entrance fee: carved stone doorways, barrel-vaulted cellars and sun-drenched inner courtyards set a dramatic stage for the exhibits inside.
Panels (in Spanish and English) walk you through the geology of the Pyrenean foothills, explaining why the Vero and Cinca river valleys produce Garnacha and Tempranillo with such distinctive mineral depth.
The Tasting Experience
The visit culminates in a guided tasting of two or three Somontano wines poured by knowledgeable staff who can point you toward the smaller family bodegas that rarely appear on export lists.
Pick up a map of the Ruta del Vino de Somontano at the desk — it links 32 producers within a 30-minute drive of the city and makes for a perfect afternoon itinerary.
