The Scriptorial houses around 200 manuscripts produced by the monks of Mont Saint-Michel between the 8th and 15th centuries, making it one of France's finest collections of illuminated texts outside the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
Purpose-built in 2006, the sleek contemporary building contrasts beautifully with the fragile, gold-leafed pages inside. Multilingual interactive terminals let you zoom into microscopic details that the naked eye would otherwise miss.
