La Ramade Restaurant
A fixture of Avranches dining for years, La Ramade on Rue de la Constitution serves honest, ingredient-led Norman cuisine in a warm, stone-walled dining room that feels like the France of your imagination. The pre-fixe menus represent extraordinary value for the quality on the plate.
What to Order
Start with the moules marinières if they are on the day's menu — mussels from the bay cooked in local cider with shallots and cream, a combination that defines coastal Normandy. Follow with sole meunière or a thick-cut veal escalope in a calvados and cream sauce.
The cheese trolley is not to be rushed. A knowledgeable server will guide you through the regional selection, which typically includes a perfectly ripe Camembert de Normandie AOP, a wedge of Pont-l'Évêque and a sharp, crumbly piece of aged Livarot.
Atmosphere and Practicalities
The dining room seats perhaps 40 covers across exposed stone walls and dark timber beams; the atmosphere is convivial without being noisy. Service is attentive and unhurried in the best French tradition.
Lunch is the best-value session: a two-course formule with a glass of local cider often comes in under €20. Book ahead for Friday and Saturday evenings, when the room fills quickly with locals celebrating the weekend.
